Wow! What a difference a ProCone Soft Recovery Collar by zenpet makes compared to the Vet One Clinic Collar that is given to you at the vet's office after your dog has had surgery! Dakota had surgery three days ago. He had an aural hematoma in his floppy-ear. We don't know what caused it. He does have allergies which makes him itch his ears a lot, so that could have been it. The surgery took care of the hematoma, but he was left with wearing an Elizabethan collar for six weeks. On top of that, he can't play or go on longs walks. For Dakota that is like a life sentence! He loves to play with his toys and go for walks.
We saw that the plastic clinic collar worked well for keeping him from scratching his surgery wound, but how uncomfortable it must be to wear a plastic cone collar 24 hours a day! A friend on a social media site suggested that I get a Comfy Cone. I looked online and it seemed like a nice alternative, but they are only bought online from where I live. Petco carries the ProCone, so we gave it a try. It works very well. It is made from canvas and has metal rods that help hold its shape. It secures by velcro and attaches to his collar by elastic loops that you thread his collar through. It also has velcro to flip up a section on the collar for easily eating or drinking water. We are so happy with our purchase and Dakota is much happier too!
